In–service Image Monitoring Using Perceptual Objective Quality Metrics
نویسندگان
چکیده
User-oriented image quality assessment has become a key factor in multimedia communications as a means of monitoring perceptual service quality. However, existing image quality metrics such as Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) are inappropriate for in-service quality monitoring since they require the original image to be available at the receiver. Although PSNR and others are objective metrics, they are not based on human visual perception and are typically designed to measure the fidelity. On the other hand, the human visual system (HVS) is more sensitive to perceptual quality than fidelity. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a novel objective reduced-reference hybrid image quality metric (RR-HIQM) that accounts for the human visual perception and does not require a reference image at the receiver. This metric is based on a combined approach of various but specific image artifact measures. The result is a single number, which represents an overall image quality.

Perceptual quality assessment of 3D dynamic meshes: Subjective and objective studies
Nowadays, 3D mesh animations have been increasingly used in various applications, e.g., in digital entertainment and physically-based simulation. In many applications, it is possible that a surface animation undergoes some lossy operations which can impair its perceptual quality. Since the end users of mesh animations are often human beings, the perceptual quality assessment of 3D dynamic meshe...
متن کاملPerceptual quality-based image communication service framework for wireless sensor networks
Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) have an increasing variety of multimedia-based applications including image and video transmission. In these types of applications, multimedia sensor nodes should ideally maximize perceptual quality and minimize energy expenditures in communication. For the required perceptual quality to be obtained, qualityaware routing is a key research area in WMSN...
متن کاملPerceptual-based quality assessment for audio-visual services: A survey
Accurate measurement of the perceived quality of audio–visual services at the end-user is becoming a crucial issue in digital applications due to the growing demand for compression and transmission of audio–visual services over communication networks. Content providers strive to offer the best quality of experience for customers linked to their different quality of service (QoS) solutions. Ther...
متن کاملPerceptual Semantics
The design of image and video compression or transmission systems is driven by the need for reducing the bandwidth and storage requirements of the content while maintaining its visual quality. Therefore, the objective is to define codecs that maximize perceived quality as well as automated metrics that reliably measure perceived quality. One of the common shortcomings of traditional video coder...
متن کاملA no-reference objective image quality metric based on perceptually weighted local noise
This work proposes a perceptual based no-reference objective image quality metric by integrating perceptually weighted local noise into a probability summation model. Unlike existing objective metrics, the proposed no-reference metric is able to predict the relative amount of noise perceived in images with different content, without a reference. Results are reported on both the LIVE and TID2008...
